The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) is a global industry alliance comprising more than 120 organizations including telecommunications service providers, cable operators, MSOs, network equipment, test vendors, labs and software manufacturers, semiconductors vendors and testing organizations.
The MEF's mission is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services.
The MEF develops technical specifications and implementation agreements to promote interoperability and deployment of Carrier Ethernet worldwide.

The WiMAX Forum® is an industry-led, not-for-profit organization formed to certify and promote the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon the harmonized IEEE 802.16/ETSI HiperMAN standard.

A WiMAX Forum goal is to accelerate the introduction of these systems into the marketplace. WiMAX Forum Certified products are fully interoperable and support broadband fixed, portable and mobile services.
Along these lines, the WiMAX Forum works closely with service providers and regulators to ensure that WiMAX Forum Certified systems meet customer and government requirements.

TM Forum has been contributing to the Information and Communications Services (ICS) Industry for over 18 years.

The main objective of this initiative is to encourage the interested groups of NGN activities around the world for harmonized and smoother transition to the next generation networks to provide seamless services with high security, quality and performance in creating the future information society.

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a collaboration agreement that was established in December 1998. The collaboration agreement brings together a number of telecommunications standards bodies which are known as Organizational Partners. The current Organizational Partners are ARIB, CCSA, ETSI, ATIS, TTA, and TTC. The establishment of 3GPP was formalized in December 1998 by the signing of the The 3rd Generation Partnership Project Agreement.

The original scope of 3GPP was to produce globally applicable Technical Specifications and Technical Reports for a 3rd Generation Mobile System based on evolved GSM core networks and the radio access technologies that they support (i.e., Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA) both Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) modes). The scope was subsequently amended to include the maintenance and development of the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) Technical Specifications and Technical Reports including evolved radio access technologies (e.g. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE)).

cert.pngCERT
The CERT® Program is part of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Following the Morris worm incident, which brought 10 percent of internet systems to a halt in November 1988, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) charged the SEI with setting up a center to coordinate communication among experts during security emergencies and to help prevent future incidents. This center was named the CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC).

It is a non-funded initiative, which aims to inspire policymakers, technocrats, researchers, NGOs and UN and other development agencies worldwide. It was officially launched and presented at the Second Global Development Network Meeting of the World Bank in Japan 2000.
